Travel Writing and Underwater Photography

Travel Writing with Underwater Photography is an exciting, unique and participant-centered workshop using the backdrop of five gorgeous Caribbean locations:

These islands not only offer exotic locations for travel writing, but also a beautiful environmental classroom for underwater photography

- the warm, enticing Caribbean waters with diverse natural habitat for vibrant wildlife.

This highly interactive, hands-on workshop is facilitated by freelance writers, Nancy M. Dickinson for Travel Writing and Sue Richter for Underwater Photography.

Workshop participants will be conducting on-site assignments on these five islands and create a portfolio of articles and photographs, both above ground and underwater.  This course is also pre-requisite for the Certified Underwater Photography course in March 2011.

Sailing: 11/5/10 on the Norwegian Dawn
Group Registration Dates: 1/11/10 to 7/1/10
Ports of Call: Miami, At Sea, Samana, Tortola, St. John's, Antigua, Bridgetown, Basse Terre

The Introductory Underwater Photography Course is intended for snorkelers who are comfortable in the water. Basic skills will be taught for underwater photography including proper buoyancy, basic lighting, composition and camera choices.
The course includes approximately 2.5 hours of classroom time and a minimum of 1.5 hours of practical experience in the water with the instructor. The in-water portion of the classes will be limited to small groups (a maximum of 8 people) to ensure everyone gets personal one on one time. Everyone will be required to take their own photos.
There will be review and critiquing of photos during the cruise. Digital cameras are best to use so we can review the photos on the ship. There are many options for underwater cameras including very inexpensive disposable cameras. These cameras will not provide the best quality of photos but they do provide a source of documentation. For more information click here http://cameras.about.com/od/accessories/a/underwater_cam.htm.

This Underwater Photography Course is a unique course in that we have several islands to investigate on the cruise. Many photography courses are mostly classroom time and do not offer real experience in the water.
